Jagaddhatri Puja is a gracious occasion celebrated by people of West Bengal. Jagaddhatri means mother of this world. This puja is being celebrated on Tuesday, 21st November this year. On the day of this puja, Goddess Jagaddhatri is worshipped with great devotion. Goddess Jagaddhatri or Jagat Dhatri is an avatar of Goddess Durga. According to the Puranas, Jagaddhatri is also said to be the avatar of Siddhidhatri and the combined form of Sri Bhuvaneshwari and Durga. In the Bengal, her puja is celebrated as the comeback of Devi, specially in Krishnanagar, Chandannagar and Rishra.
The Jagaddharti Puja was first started by Maharaja Krishnachandra of Krishnanagar, Nadia in West Bengal. Jagaddhatri Puja is very popular in Krishnanagar, Rishra, Chandannagar, Bhadreswar, Hooghly, Boinchi. The Jagaddhatri puja of Bose family, Palpara, deserves a special mention in this regard. As per historical theory, one of the trusted officials & supposed 'friend' of Krishnachandra was Dataram Sur, who, with the Raja’s financial backing, started the Jagaddhatri Pujas in Chandernagore (Chandannagar), at Gourhati, in his widowed daughters’ house that puja now exists in the form of 'Bhadreswar Tentultala Barwari'.
