Among the renowned writers of Bengali literature, mention must be made of Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhayay. This great author was born on 12th september in 1894 at Murtipur near Kalyani which was under Bengal Presidency during British rule. His father’s name was Mahananda Bandyopadhayay and his mother was Mrinalini Devi. He completed his primary education at Bongaon High school and having completed his early education, he went to Kolkata. There he passed his graduatuion from Ripon college which is now well known as Surendranath college of Kolkata.
After completing his education he became the Headmaster of Jangipara High School and later he joined Harinavi Anglo Sanskrit Institution also in the same post. Beside his career in teaching job, he also worked hard to contribute in the flourishment of the Bengali literature. His famous works like Pather Panchali, Aparajita, Aranyak, Debjan Chander Pahar, Ichhamati etc have brought to him much fame. These works have given him a very respectable place in Literature.When he was in Ghatshila, he had a heart attack and left this world for ever. But his works will keep him alive for eternal time in the heart of the readers.
Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay is a renowned name in the history of Bengali literature. He was born in Muratipur village near Kalyani in Nadia. His father was Mahananda Bandyopadhyay who was a sanskrit scholar and a story teller and Mrinalini Devi was his mother. He was the eldest of the five children of his parents.
Bandyopadhyay studied at Bongaon High School as a talented student. He completed his intermediate Art examination with first division and undergraduate degree in Economics, history and sanskrit at the Surendranath college in Kolkata. Later he joined as a teacher in a school in Jangipara in Hoogly.
He succeeded in the presentation of his literary talent through his immortal writings of Bengali literature. His works show the setting of rural Bengal. The characters are from the rural areas and this is evident in his works like Pather Panchali, Adarsha Hindu Hotel, Ichhamoti, Bipiner Sansar, Aranyak &Chander Pahar etc. Pather Panchali made Bandyopadhyay famous. It’s sequel Aparajito and Pather Panchali got translation into numerous languages. His Taranath Tantrik was popular for readers and it was a grand successs.
He breathed his last on 1st November in 1950 in Ghatshila and Heart attack was the cause of his death. His house in Ghatshila has been named Gouri Kunj. We can’t forget a great writer like Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay.
